Frequently Asked Questions

Where is St. Mark's?

One of our mottos are:  "Hard to find; worth the effort!"  St. Mark's is located near the intersection of Watt & El Camino in Sacramento, behind the Country Club Shopping Center.  To view a map of our location, visit our Location page.

What are the styles and times of worship services?

We have two diverse worship services on Sunday mornings.  Our 9:30am service is our traditional service while our 11:00am service is more casual with varieties of music.  Learn more about our worship services under the Worship tab on our home page.

How do people dress?

You will find a little bit of everything here at St. Mark's. Whether you arrive for worship in a coat and tie or in blue jeans, you will not be alone.

Is Communion open to everyone?

Yes.  We welcome everyone regardless of church membership or affiliation. We commune by intinction most of the time. You will be handed bread and will dip it into the chalice. We celebrate the sacrament of communion on the first Sunday of every month.

What do United Methodists believe?

Visit our Beliefs page for more information.

How can I become a member of St. Mark's?

The first step is to speak to one of our pastors and let them know of your interest.  We offer membership classes for those who wish to transfer their membership from another church and for those who have never joined a church community in the past.

What is expected of members at St. Mark's?

We ask that members of our community join together in four ways:
1. Participating in worship regularly
2. Growing in faith through study of the scriptures
3. Serving God by following the example of Jesus Christ
4. Giving to the church in proportion to their income

Is child care available?

Yes. We welcome children in worship, but we also provide childcare during our 9:30am service and during our 11:00am service.  Sunday school is offered for children ages 2 years old - 6th grades during our 9:30am and 11:00am services.  If your child attends worship with you, ask an usher for a red activity book filled with pages of entertainment to keep young worshipers occupied.  Visit our Childcare page for more information.

Are there Bible study classes for adults?

We have a number of opportunities for Bible study throughout the week, as well as on Sundays.

Can I join the singers? Or play an instrument?

Absolutely!  We have two choirs and we welcome your participation.  There are also opportunities for musicians to join in offering their gifts through worship.
