Unafraid! Living with Hope and Confidence:The Toxicity of Fear
Sunday, January 21, 2018 – 10:00am
Fear gets expressed in lots of different ways and it always does damage. Fear’s close relative is anxiety… where the feelings are less focused but equally immobilizing.
People of faith have the promise of God’s love, and, as the Epistle of John reminds us, love drives out fear. A heart filled with love can stand firm against the damage that fear can so easily cause.
We are living in a culture where fear and anxiety are pervasive. The God that we know in Jesus Christ gives us confidence in the face of fear. Sunday’s theme is:The Toxicity of Fear.
God created you and me to be people who not only live out the ways of love and confidence, but as people who teach others how to do the same.
Psalm 27:1 Common English Bible (CEB).
The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Should I fear anyone?
The Lord is a fortress protecting my life.
Should I be frightened of anything?
Psalm 27:14 Common English Bible
Hope in the Lord!
Be strong! Let your heart take courage!
Hope in the Lord!
Matthew 5:43-44 Common English Bible
”You have heard that it was said, You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who harass you
1 John 4:18 Common English Bible
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear expects punishment. The person who is afraid has not been made perfect in love.
1 John 4:19 Common English Bible
We love because God first loved us.
Love and hope are liberating. Are there areas of your life where you need to get rid of the anxiety or fear? How can you substitute the love and hope you need?
