Refugee, Immigration, Sanctuary Task Force
Report

“First they came for the communists
and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Finally, they came for me and there was no one left to speak out.”

                                           Martin Niemöller, German theologian

St. Mark’s is known for its community outreach through it’s many Social Justice Programs. Refugee, Immigration, Sanctuary Task Force (RISk) is one of these programs.

The Task Force was first developed two years ago with the intention of becoming a Sanctuary Level 1 church. The church then voted to become a Level 2 Sanctuary Church.

The Task Force is interested and focused on helping with the many needs of refugees and immigrants in our local community. Through attending informational meetings, holding community workshops, assisting families with educational needs, holding fundraisers, advocacy work and volunteering of time and talents in helping the refugee and immigrant families to adjust and thrive in their newly found community, they are always looking for new ways to make a difference and provide a helping hand.

RISK has recently partnered with Opening Doors, Inc., a non-profit service organization. Opening Doors celebrates the diversity of the community, and offers a wide range of programs and tools to support refugees, immigrants and survivors of human trafficking.

They are also partnered with:

Sacramento ACT

Piconetwork.org

St. Mark’s RISK Task Force is a friendly group of people who are looking to expand in size. They welcome everyone that has an interest in being of service and wants to give of time in providing a helping hand. Sacramento has an increasing number of refugees and immigrants that are in need of our help.

Quarterly meetings are September 3 and December 3, 2019.
